Friends and Constituents,
It’s November! How did that happen?
This week, I have an extra-special edition of What’s Your Job, filmed at the Irvington Halloween Festival on Saturday. The topic we discussed was Flock cameras! Give it a watch, then keep reading.
That’s right - once again, the Council is not introducing a Flock related proposal. Council leadership found a reason why we shouldn’t introduce the proposal we’ve been working on once again. However, I truly feel we are getting closer. Council Vice President John Barth and I will be hosting a public conversation about Flock cameras and surveillance generally - stay tuned for the location and date, but we are considering November 10th and November 11th.
A few important things are happening in the next two days.
First: ELECTION DAY IS TUESDAY! Marion County voters can still early vote tomorrow, Monday October 2nd, at the City-County Building downtown, from 8 am to noon. As long as you’re in line to vote by noon, you’ll be able to vote tomorrow. Or, a huge number of voting centers are available on Tuesday, and Marion County voters can vote anywhere in the county.
Remember, in our oppressed state there is no same-day voter registration, so if you’re not already registered, you’re unable to vote this time around. But also remember: YOU are the best advocate for people who know you. Whether you’ve already voted or not, stop what you’re doing and text three people you know who don’t always vote, and ask them to please do it as a favor to you. You don’t have to vote for every single race on the ballot, but I think it’s important to show up and cast a ballot even if you’re frustrated by your options, just so politicians are clear that you’re not lazy, you’re just mad.
Also, tomorrow evening is another full Council meeting. This one has no opportunity for public comment, and the only items that will be voted on for final adoption are speed limit reductions and weight limit restrictions - so not a very interesting meeting to come out to. Nevertheless, I’ll be in the Public Assembly Room an hour early and would be happy to talk to anyone and everyone about any concerns they might have as part of the People’s Caucus. And I will have printed agendas for those who come in person as well.
If you haven’t voted yet, go vote Monday or Tuesday. If you have already voted, text your friends and family to remind them to do it, too. And as always, if you’re a subscriber to my email list, enjoy my monthly log of activities. Please do let me know how I can better serve you!
In love and solidarity,
Jesse
