Easter Rising

Friends and Constituents,

Happy Easter and Chag Pesach Sameach to all those who celebrate! And for those who don’t follow Christianity or Judaism, I hope you are enjoying the sudden emergence of warm weather and springtime.

For me, Easter is a reminder that we don’t have all the answers, and we don’t fully understand the world. We cannot predict the future and against all odds, sunlight can break through the clouds and despair can turn to joy. Right now, as we face down an incredibly bleak political climate, these lessons are more important than ever.

Death is not the end. Hope springs eternal. The meek shall inherit the earth. Have faith in each other and in the goodness of humanity. We shall persevere.

This week, I invite you to participate in democracy at every level you can. One easy way is to participate in a few big surveys available right now.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is preparing a long-term strategic plan for the department. They are asking all constituents to fill out this anonymous survey. This is important for anyone to fill out, since the police receive the largest percentage of our local budget. I found the questions fair and encourage everyone to fill out the survey.

The Office of Public Health and Safety is also conducting a survey. It’s specifically for those who are interested in / working in foodsystems with an eye for equity. OPHS has collected 136 different suggestions about the ways in which local government could help build a more equitable and empowering food system in Indianapolis. I enjoyed filling out this survey, and I encourage you to do so as well!

Finally, the City of Indianapolis is working on a Trails and Greenways Strategic Implementation Plan to help guide the future of our cycling / walking / rolling infrastructure in the city. The City and its partners are hosting two community sessions to share out current plans about the Strategic Implementation Plan and ask for your feedback. Please attend one of these meetings, and share the information about them on your own social media!
